The following former governors have devoted their time and abilities to the development of our beloved Jigawa State.

CON. OLAYINKA SULE - Military Administrator

28 Aug. 1991 to Dec. 1991

Brigadier General (retired) Olayinka Sule was the Administrator of Jigawa State, Nigeria from August 1991 to January 1992 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. In 1983 Lt. Colonel Sule was military attache to the permanent mission of Nigeria to the United Nations. Promoted to Colonel, Sule was the first Administrator of Jigawa State, Nigeria after it was formed from part of Kano State in August 1991.

ALHAJI ALI SA'AD BIRNIN-KUDU

Jan. 1992 to Nov. 1993

Ali Sa'ad Birnin-Kudu is a Muslim barrister and former governor of Jigawa State, northern Nigeria. He was a member of the now-defunct Social Democratic Party and served as governor from January 1992 until November 1993.

BRIGADIER GENERAL IBRAHIM ALIYU - MILITARY ADMINISTRATOR

Dec. 1993 to Aug. 1996

General Ibrahim Aliyu was the Military Administrator of Jigawa State from December 1993 to August 1996 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha. On January 13 1996 he installed Nuhu Sanusi as first class Emir of Dutse. Following the return to democracy, as a former military administrator he was required to retire from the army..

COLONEL RASHEED SHEKONI - MILITARY ADMINISTRATOR

Aug. 1996 to Aug. 1998

Colonel Rasheed Shekoni was a Military Administrator of Jigawa State from August 1996 to August 1998 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha, and then of Kwara State from August 1998 to May 1999 during the transitional regime of General Abdulsalami Abubakar. He built the Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital in Dutse, capital of Jigawa state, but it was then abandoned for ten years before it could be equipped and put to use. In Kwara State he completed building the 360-unit Adinimole.

LT.COLONELABUBAKAR SADIQ ZAKARI MAIMALARI - MILITARY ADMINISTRATOR

Aug. 1998 to May 1999

Lt. Colonel Abubakar Sadiq Zakari Maimalari was the Military Administrator of Jigawa State from August 1998 to 29 May 1999 during the transitional regime of General Abdulsalami Abubakar, when he handed over to the elected Executive Governor Ibrahim Saminu Turaki. His father was Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari, a senior army officer who was murdered during the January 1966 coup that brought General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi to power. As governor, Maimalari was reported by an anonymous internet.

SENATOR IBRAHIM SAMINU TURAKI

May 1999 to May 2007

Alhaji Ibrahim Saminu Turaki is a Nigerian politician and former governor of Jigawa State in Nigeria. He was a Jigawa state chairman of SDP (Social Democratic Party) and UNCP (United Nigeria Congress Party). He was governor of Jigawa State in Nigeria from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. He was elected in 1999 and re-elected in 2003 on the platform of the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) In 2000, Turaki decentralized the Jigawa state government, allocating many aspects to the five Emirate council.

ALHAJI (DR) SULE LAMIDO

May 2007 to May. 2015

Sule Lamido (born 1948) served as Foreign minister of Nigeria from 1999 to 2003. He was elected governor of Jigawa State in April 2007. He is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He ran successfully for reelection on 26 April 2011. In 2015 he and his sons were put on trial for embezzling state fund by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

ALHAJI MUHAMMADU BADARU ABUBAKAR MON, MNI

May 2015 to May 2023

Born 53 years ago in Babura town, Muhammadu Badaru went to the Babura Central Primary School, in 1970 and proceeded to the famous Rumfa College, Kano from where he went for his A levels at the School of Basic Studies at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1981 and got admitted into the University to graduate with a Bachelor Of Science Degree, Accountancy in 1985, in 2006, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar also went to the prestigious National Institute for Policy & Strategic Studies, (NIPSS), Kuru Jos.
