To promote the health status of the people of Jigawa State through improved, integrated health care services, awareness on health and health related matters, ensure good resource mobilization and practices with increased publicprivate partnership and effective community participation and ownership to ensure that basic health services are made available, accessible, affordable and acceptable to the people.

To have a healthy and productive population in the State.
These actions are meant to attain the Goal of Health for all citizens, that is a level of Health that will permit its citizens to lead socially and economically productive lives at the highest level possible. Its responsibilities include among others Health Policy formulation for the State, interpretation of the National Health Policy (NHP) and implementing these policies in the State. These policies are based on the adoption of primary health care concept as the first step towards achieving the much desired health for all necessary for balance and sustainable development in the State.
Organisation and Function
The Ministry comprises of Five (5) departments and one parastatal – Gunduma Health System Board (GSHB).
As the supervising and coordinating authority on health matters within the State, it takes initiatives and ensures political support from the Government towards achieving its laudable objectives.
Organization Responsibilities
Health Policy formulation and service provision in the state.
Interpretation and implementation of National Health policy as it effects the state considering its peculiarity.
Collaboration with international and National stakeholders in Health and Health related issues.
Provision of Health infrastructures, equipping and maintaining them.
Planning for, recruitment and development of the required man power.
Generation and Analysis of Health data for study and research.
