In its efforts to ensure that all of its citizens are able to read and write as well as communicate in their immediate languages and also to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Education for All (EFA) goals target of 2015, the Jigawa State Government established the Agency for Mass Education by Law No. 8 of 2008. It is worthy to note that, before the inception of the present administration of Alh. Sule Lamido in 2007, the Agency was confined as a department under the repealed State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Law No. 4 of 2005.

As an educational sector, it is saddled with the responsibility of eradicating illiteracy in all its ramifications from the State within the shortest possible period.

With an already necessary key staff on ground, a Sole Administrator was appointed in September 2008, a step further in having a firm structure for the Agency. Since its establishment to date, the Agency has been trying to actualize and realize the purposes for which it was established. The Government willingness and support in both financial and moral terms are numerous. Also Ministries, Parastatals, Non- governmental Agencies and Individuals have been making frantic efforts by partnering with the Agency to reduce illiteracy from the State.

The Agency’s vision is to eradicate or reduce illiteracy from the State within the shortest possible time using the necessary resources at its disposal.

It is our mission to provide Mass Education to all the deserving categories of our target beneficiaries (Adult men and women, drop out, and out of school boys and girls) as well as empower them towards the development of Jigawa State.

The organization bears the name: Jigawa State Agency for Mass Education. It was established by Jigawa State Law No. 6 of 2008 as a parastatal under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. There are five (5) operational departments viz Planning Research and Statistics, Vocational and Women Education, Literacy, Administration and Finance and Continuing Education. The Agency has an Area Office in each of the twenty- seven (27) LGAs of the State. Its main function is to provide Mass Education Services to Jigawa State populace.
