YANKWASHI LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Yankwashi Local Government is one of the 27 local governments in Jigawa State. It was curved out from Kazaure Local Government on Thursday, 5th December 1996 as a result of the creation of more local governments in the country.

The local government consist of two (2) District councils one at Karkana and the other one at Achilafiya.

It is bordered on the south by Kazaure local government, to the west by Gwiwa local government, and by the north and east, Katsina State.

The local government has seventeen (17) village heads twelve (12) at Karkarna District and five (5) at Achilafiya District.

The villages are Karkarna Arewa, Karkarna Kudu, Ringim, Yankwashi, Sabuwa, Kwarin - Karlgo, Jeka - Fada, Dankama, Dawan - Gawo, Gwarta, Rauda, Kuda, Birji, Achilafiya, Sada, Zungumba and Dankari.

The local government consists of ten (10) wards in the area which are Achilafiya, Zungumba, Belas, Kuda, Karkarna, Gwarta, Gurjiya, Dawan Gawo, Ringim and Yankwashi wards.

The area has a total population of about 33,138 as per the year 2006 population census.

About 99% of the total populations in the area are farmers and Hausa and Fulani by tribe.
