Dr. Abba Umar Zakari
Dr. Abba Umar Zakari is a holder of Postgraduate Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom and a Masters Degree in Infections and Health in the Tropics from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom in 1996 after his MBBS Degree in 1990 from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Aged 49, Dr. Abba Umar Zakari who was born in Kafin Hausa town is now in charge of the Health Ministry but was until his new position, the National Programme Manager for DFID funded programme on Maternal and Child Health in Northern Nigeria.
The new Commissioner also held positions of Government House Physician and personal Physician to five successive Governors of Jigawa state, the Executive Secretary of the state Primary Health Care Board, (PHC), National Advisor Obstetric Fistula, United Nations Funds for Population Activities, (UNFPA), Head of United Kingdom DFID in Northern Nigeria, Country Director EU funded Immunization programme, Health Programme Manager EC in Nigeria, Chief of Party (Country Director) USAID funded Malaria control project in Nigeria and was at a time the state Health Commissioner.
