MINISTRY OF COMMERCE, INDUSTRY COOPERATIVE AND TOURISM 29th MAY, 2015 TO 30TH APRIL, 2016 PROGRESS REPORT On the first anniversary of this government and in line with the traditional practice the Ministry of Commerce, Industry Cooperative and Tourism wishes to presents its achievement during the period of May 29th 2015 to May 29th 2016. 1. INDUSTRY DEPARTMENT:  Commissioned Phase II of Lee Footwear Factory at Kijawal has generated employment for 200 youth  Attracted $300m Investment by Dangote Group for Rice Production and Processing Factory at Hago and Kudigin in Kafin Hausa Local Government. An estimated 15,000 direct and indirect jobs to be created  Attracted $100m Investment for Sugar Plantation and Refinery by Lee Group through one of its company (Northern Agri. Business Limited), in Gagarawa Local Government  Conducted a five days training on modern entrepreneur training for 60 small and medium enterprises across the state at the sum of N1,606,000.00  Signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chinese investors for the establishment of school furniture plant and labor saving agricultural implements and tools in the state worth about $200m.  Klylat Food and Beverage rice factory, Hadejia has commenced trial production and formal commissioning expected soon.  Three Brother Rice Mill, Hadejia has a new dryer and parboiling units being installed to address capacity mismatch 2. TOURISM DEPARTMENT:  Introduced Guided Tour to Tourist Sites and Attractions, many tours are now being guided to these sites  Prepared Resuscitation Proposal for 3- Star Hotel (i.e. Business Plan, Operation Manual and Accounting Manual) which has been approved by State Executive Council  Restored liquidity to 3 Star Hotel through the injection of N8 Million COMMERCE DEPARTMENT:  Introduction and implementation of the “trading concept” at Maigatari Border Free Zone  Adoption and implementation of the Zinder – Daura – Jigawa – Kano Trade Corridor  Completion of the pre-contract aspect of Major Markets Development (Maigatari, Sara and Gujungu)  Harmonization of rates and fees jointly with GEMS3  Registered 168 Business Premises which generated a total of N3,975,000.00 compared to a total of 113 business premises and N2,586,000.00 of the previous period as a result of improved business environment and investors confidence in the government policies and direction.  Undertook trade mission to the Peoples Republic of China with representative of the organized private sector  Drawn an MOU with Nigeria –Niger Chamber of Commerce on trading concept of Maigatari Border Free Zone.  Stage the 56th Annual General Meeting Conference of Nigeria Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) 3. COOPERATIVES DEPARTMENT:  Registered a total of 1,161 Cooperative Society Groups which also generated N4,644,000 compared to 27 cooperative societies and N108,000 of the corresponding period  Audited two cooperative societies 4. CONSUMER PROTECTION COMMITTEE: The establishment and inauguration of the Consumer Protection Committee and subsequent release of N500,000.00 take off grant has re-inaugurated the Committee and to the following achievements: -  Made a total of 126 visits to 8 of our Major Markets  Seized a total of 160 bags of adulterated commodities (16 bags of sesame, 44 Zobo and 100 offal) with culprits prosecuted and convicted by Courts.  Seized over 3,000 sub-standard measures (Muduss) 5. SOLID MINERALS DEVELOPMENT AGENCY:  Formed 50 Cooperative Groups (with a maximum of 20 members each) of Artisanal Miners across the state in collaboration with Nigeria Quintessential Business Women Association  Facilitated the establishment of Granite Tile Factory at Kachi, Dutse through an investor (Messrs GCC Vanguard) which has generated jobs for our youth.
