Lawan Yunusa Dan Zomo (Hon. Commissioner)

Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo was born on 12th February, 1960 in Danzomo town of Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area, Jigawa State..

His quest for education began in Danzomo Primary School, which he attended from 1966 - 1973 and from there proceeded to Government Secondary School, Dawakin Tofa from 1973- 1978 after which he enrolled into Kano Teachers’ College (PTC Waje) from 1978 to 1979.

He obtained NCE Certificate at Gumel Advanced Teachers College in 1983 and proceeded to Bayero University, Kano for a Bachelor’s Degree in English (B. A. (Ed) from 1986- 1989 and a Masters Degree in1994 - 1996 and Doctorate Degree (Ph. D) 2012- 2018 respectively from the same University.

Dr. Danzomo's outstanding working experience e made His Excellency Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar to appoint him to the position of the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

As an educator par excellence, Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo taught at Kurna Junior Secondary School, GSS Roni, GSS Rimi, and Government Secondary School, Lautai among others.

He lectured at the Jigawa State Colleges of Education, Gumel and Bayero University, Kano from 1989- 1990 and 1997-2007 respectively.

He was made the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Works and Housing in 1992- 1993, Special Adviser on Science and Technology, Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Basic Education, Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Commerce, Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Special Duties, Special Adviser Due Process and projects monitoring bureau as well as DFID Universal Basic Education Project State Adviser, Jigawa State.

Dr. Danzomo has made several publications.

Before his appointment for the second time as the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo was lecturing at the Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa.

MISSION:-

VISION:- To lay a solid education foundation for the state to advance in science and Technology, Vocational Skills and other areas of manpower development.

• To ensure conducive teaching and learning environment in school structure teaching materials and equipments.
• To provide qualified teachers and their continued training and re-training.
• To ensure that schools are learner friendly in terms of sporting, recreational, health care, water and sanitation materials.
• To ensure constant inspection and monitoring of schools for quality assurance.
• To guarantee that curricula contents are comprehensive and meet social needs.
• To cater for staff and students welfare as well as to maintain discipline..

• General administration of the Ministry;
• All staff matters concerning recruitments, appointments, formalization of appointments, training, posting and transfer, discipline and promotion;

• Advancement of staff that under-went relevant professional courses:
• Recommendation of renewal of contract appointments: .
• Formalization of appointments of staff with the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

SCHOOL SERVICES:-

• General administration of Senior Secondary Schools,
• Postings/transfer of students/teachers, vice-principals and principals,
• provision of adequate teaching staff:
• Staff and students discipline.

PLANNING, RESEARCH AND STATISTICS:-

• Planning the general activities of the Ministry, such as vision, mission, targets, admission/placement school calendar, construction, renovation works
• preparing annual budgets, collecting, collating storing and analyzing data: coordinating the Student Exchange Programme (Unity Schools Program among the Northern States):
• Serving as the secretariat for Management meetings, Tenders Board, Joint Consultative Committee on Education (JCCE) and National Council on Education (NCE)
• Coordinating interventions into the Ministry by ETF, UNICEFR and others.

TERTIARY EDUCATION:-

• Liaison activities between Tertiary institution and the Ministry
• Representing the Ministry at Board meetings of Tertiary institutions
• Conveying all approvals and any other correspondence from the Ministry to Institutions.

Works

• Construction and renovation of schools structures:
• Maintenance of school structures
• Purchase and maintenance of schools equipment like generators, ITT equipment and many others
• Purchase and maintenance of Ministerial vehicles
• Supervision of ETF projects, which include renovation, construction works and supplies

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE:-

The Department is responsible for:
• preparation and conduct of examinations
• Inspection of schools
• All the necessary procedures for the establishment of new school by the state government
• Recommendation of applicants seeking for teaching profession
• Recommendation for the establishment of private school
• Inspection of private schools
• Preparation and conduct of schools sporting activities
• Organizing seminars, workshops and conferences for teachers, Vice Principal and Principals
• Recommendation for up-grading of schools
• Keeping records of Exams WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:-

The Department is responsible for:
• The ICT component of the Ministry's mandate
• Maintaining the Computer Training Centers in the State;
• Development and teaching of ICT in Senior Secondary Schools;
• Liaison between the Informatics Institute Kazaure and the Ministry.

SPECIAL DUTIES:-

The Department is responsible for:
• Coordinating the activities of Higher Education Development Committees established in each Senior Secondary School;
• Coordinating the activities of PTAs;
• Carrying out any ad hoc programme of the Ministry;
• Special assignment of any matter that may arise in any school and other departments;
• Any duty that may be assigned by the Honorable Commissioner or Permanent Secretary.
