INTRODUCTION/POWERS:-

The edict that established the Islamic Education Bureau (IEB) headed by the Executive Secretary came into operation on the 17th September, 1998. Later, section 5 of the Islamic Education Bureau law was amended by deleting the whole section and replacing it with the new section by law No. 5 of the September, 1999.

The Bureau consists of the chairman and the following members:-

Five members who in the opinion of the Governor are capable oof making positive contribution to the attainment of the goals and objectives of the Bureau.
A representative of the Ministry of Education not below the rank of a Director.
A representative of the Directorate of Local Government not below the rank of Director.
Director of Social welfare in the state.
One Qadi to represent the sharia court of appeal.

VISION:- The Islamic Education Bureau envisions good quality control of Arabic and Islamic Education, spirit of morally, culturally and socially well being, integration of Qur’anic and Islamiyya Schools with a view to producing better up scholars in the state.

MISSION:- The Islamic Education Bureau shall accepts by providing citizens with necessary relevant knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that would enable them pursue their education toward the development of themselves, their families, community at large and entire nation.

MANDATE/FUNCTIONS :- The functions of the Bureau are:-

To formulate broad policies and advise the Government on matters relating to Islamic and Arabic education and the moral teachings of Islam in the State.
To maintain existing public Islamiyya, Qur’anic and Arabic Schools, and to establish, maintain and control such new ones as the Government may direct.
To assume the Management of any institution within the state where so directed by the commissioner.
To make such provision for conducting or assisting the conduct of research as appears to the Bureau to be desirable for the purpose of improving Islamic & Arabic education within the state.
To be responsible for the quality control of Arabic & Islamic Education in the State at pre-primary, primary and post primary levels.
To be responsible for the training and re-training of its staff.
To handle recruitment, promotion, discipline, retirement, transfer and posting of staff, subject to the approval of Civil Service Commission.
To organize or participate in the organization of courses, conferences, seminars (including Qur’anic Recitation Competition) for the purpose of discussions, questions relating to Islamic and Arabic Education.
To plan and take measures of integrating Qur’anic and Islamic Schools Education in the state with the formal system.
To furnish the commissioner with such advice relating to Islamic Education within the state as he may require.
To set up functional departments to supervise and run its day to day activities.
To determine the scheme of service for all its employees.
To grant aid, register private Islamiyya, Qur’anic and Arabic primary and secondary schools in the state, as the Bureau may determine.
To perform such other functions as may be imposed upon it by this edict or under any law.
To co-operate with other participating ministries and Agencies including:
